What is safeguarding?

Above all else, at Chaucer Infant and Nursery School we are dedicated to safeguarding our children and young people.

Safeguarding is defined as the following:

  • Protecting children from maltreatment
  • Preventing impairment of children's health or development
  • Ensuring children are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care
  • Taking action to enable all children to have the best life chances

Who is responsible?

Everyone is responsible for the safeguarding of children. At Chaucer Infant and Nursery School, all of our staff understand that they are responsible for being curious and acting swiftly and proactively to keep our young people safe.

There are three designated safeguarding leads at the school:

  • Mrs L Nappin - Head of School
  • Mrs L Parry - Pastoral Support Worker
  • Mrs A Morgan - EYFS Lead and Nursery Teacher

Serious concerns

There are four main areas of abuse; physical, emotional, sexual and neglect. If you have reason to believe that a child is being subjected to any form of abuse or you are concerned about their welfare, please use the following phone number to make a referral to Starting Point.

Prevent

Prevent is a service provided by the counter-terrorist police which is in place to stop vulnerable people from being radicalised and drawn into extremism. In our area, it is important to consider that this is more likely to include anti-diversity, racist ideology.
